Administering CA UIM

Last update April 4, 2018

CA UIM includes user interfaces that let you manage and configure your CA UIM deployment:

  • Admin Console is a browser-based GUI for configuration and management of your CA UIM system. Admin Console provides a growing number of equivalent management capabilities as Infrastructure Manager.

  • Infrastructure Manager is a legacy Windows-based interface for configuration and management of your CA UIM system.

Note: Infrastructure Manager is not installed with CA UIM by default. You must download it separately from the CA UIM server web page.

Important! Configuration of the probe—through the Unified Management Portal (UMP), using the Admin Console portlet (AC)—is not compatible with the configuration through the Infrastructure Manager interface. Do not mix or interchange configuration methods! If you do, the result will be unpredictable.

  • Account Admin is a portlet in UMP that lets you manage accounts and account contact users. In addition, you can use Account Admin to restrict certain views in UMP.

Note:  When using Admin Console to configure probes on a secondary hub, the following probes must be deployed to the secondary hub:

  • ppm
  • baseline_engine
  • prediction_engine

The baseline_engine and prediction_engine probes are dependencies of the ppm probe, and will automatically be deployed when you deploy the ppm probe.

    Hi docs team,

Probe configurations are only support through either AC or IM, one or the other, not both.

Unfortunately, I'm unable to locate a general comment for this and I think this document will be a good place for it. We do have this comment under some specific probes, like the vmware you can see here:

    https://docops.ca.com/ca-unified-infrastructure-management-probes/ga/en/alphabetical-probe-articles/vmware-vmware-monitoring/vmware-im-configuration

Important! Configuration of the probe -- through the Unified Management Portal (UMP), using the Admin Console portlet (AC) -- is not compatible with the configuration through the Infrastructure Manager interface described here. Do not mix or interchange configuration methods! If you do, the result will be unpredictable monitoring of your VMware hosts and/or VMs.

Please update this doc with a general comment for all probes.

    Many thanks, Ryan

Is seem the general probe section has been lost. Can this please be added back to the current documentation https://docops.ca.com/ca-unified-infrastructure-management/8-0/en/managing/general-probe-configuration

It looks like the team had moved the 8.0 "general probe configuration" topics to various other topics as part of 8.5.1 restructuring. Various topics from the 8.0 "general probe configuration" can be found in 8.5.1 as separate topics, combined topics, and so on.

For example, "Activate, Deactivate, or Restart a Probe" in 8.5.1, "Configure a Probe" in 8.5.1, "Use the Probe Utility" in 8.5.1, and "View a Probe Log File" are some of the examples.

we seem to be missing sections such as robot attributes that used to be available on the 8.1 guides https://docops.ca.com/ca-unified-infrastructure-management/8-1/en/managing/manage-robots/robot-attribute-reference can we please get all of these pages moved and updated?
