CA Spectrum and CA App Experience Analytics

Last update February 23, 2018

The integration between CA Spectrum and CA App Experience Analytics provides you with digital experience insights and helps you quickly determine if an issue with an app is with the design, code, or infrastructure. You can triage the issue before it impacts the customer experience. This solution provides data-driven, actionable insights that are based on information that is received from different domains, types, and processes through the log analytics platform. The CA Spectrum integration with the Log Analytics platform leverages alarms and inventory information from CA Spectrum to help the user in proactive resolution of issues.

The CA Spectrum-CA App Experience Analytics Integration allows the CA Spectrum administrator to achieve the following goals:

  • Identify key events and trends that are based on the default dashboards.
  • Perform ad-hoc searches for proactive resource optimization and root cause analysis.
  • Drill down into a log type for detailed analysis.

The CA Spectrum-CA App Experience Analytics integration is configured through CA UIM by applying and extending the existing CA Spectrum-CA UIM Integration.

Integration Architecture

The following diagram explains how the CA Spectrum-CA App Experience Analytics Integration works.

Integration Use Cases

Typically, an enterprise uses multiple monitoring solutions to gain insight into the application and network. Each solution generates huge amounts of data. The app owner and IT operations is challenged to do the following:

  • Analyze log data from multiple sources to troubleshoot performance issues.
  • Combine unstructured log data and structured data from the operations tools.
  • Automatically correlate events and alarms such as event with alarms with logs.
  • Rapidly identify root cause of infrastructure or application performance issues.

With this integration, IT operators can do the following:

  • Know the trends about the device availability by groups. The groups can be created for different criteria using global collections.
  • View the alarm information that is presented using multiple filters and are available out of the box or with custom filters.
  • Use custom attributes to customize the out of the box dashboards.
  • Drill down through the dashboards to view detailed information.

Integration Steps

To setup the CA Spectrum-CA App Experience Analytics Integration, follow these steps:

  1. Integrate CA Spectrum with CA UIM

This bidirectional integration allows you to synchronize alarms and inventories between CA Spectrum and CA UIM. The integration expands CA Spectrum monitoring capabilities by enriching it with information from CA UIM for CA Spectrum inventory and alarms.
The CA Spectrum and CA UIM integration uses spectrumgtw probe to enable the bidirectional integration.

Note: The CA Spectrum and CA App Experience Analytics integration works even if you select uni-directional (CA Spectrum to CA UIM) integration option in the spectrumgtw probe.

  2. Integrate CA UIM with CA App Experience Analytics

This integration allows you to do the following:

    • Store CA Spectrum data (alarms and inventory) in CA App Experience Analytics through CA UIM.
    • Show dashboards for CA Spectrum data.

CA UIM with CA App Experience Analytics integration uses axagateway probe to enable the integration.

  3. Monitor CA Spectrum data in CA App Experience Analytics Dashboards
After integrating CA Spectrum with CA UIM, integrate CA UIM with CA App Experience Analytics. With this integration you can monitor the CA Spectrum data in CA App Experience Analytics dashboards.

CA App Experience Analytics supports the following CA Spectrum blueprints:

    • Spectrum Overview
    • Device Availability by Group
    • Branch Availability by Region (For Banking Domain)

Installation and Configuration

The following section explains the installation prerequisites, installation and configuration process for CA Spectrum-CA App Experience Analytics Integration.

Prerequisites

Following are the prerequisites for CA Spectrum-CA App Experience Analytics Integration:

  • CA Spectrum 10.2.1 and higher
  • CA UIM 8.5.1
  • CA App Experience Analytics 16.4.1 with patch
  • CA UIM Probes:
    • axagateway (AXA Gateway) 1.0
    • spectrumgtw (Spectrum Gateway) 8.6.1 and higher

Note: If you are integrating with CA Spectrum 10.2.3, we recommend using the spectrmugtw v8.65 on CA UIM 8.5.1.

Installation

For the CA Spectrum-CA App Experience Analytics integration, you must have the following applications installed:

  • Install CA Spectrum 10.2.1 and higher

CA Spectrum 10.2 is the base installation for 10.2.x releases. First install the CA Spectrum 10.2 and then install 10.2.x. For Installation instructions, see Installing.

  • Install CA UIM 8.5.1 or 8.5.1 SP1

For installation instructions, see Installing CA UIM

  • Install CA App Experience Analytics 16.4.1

For installation instructions, see Installing and Upgrading CA App Experience Analytics

Post-Installation Configuration

Complete the following post-installation configuration for the CA App Experience Analytics and CA Spectrum integration.

  1. Get the tar artifact 'axa_16_4_1_spectrum_patch.tar.gz'. Contact CA Technologies Support team to get the AXA Patch (axa_16_4_1_spectrum_patch.tar.gz).
  2. Copy axa_16_4_1_spectrum_patch.tar.gz to $CA_EMM_HOME/kibana and extract it.
    $ tar -xzvf axa_16_4_1_spectrum_patch.tar.gz
  3. Change the directory to: cd $CA_EMM_HOME/kibana/spectrum_axa.index_mgmt/
  4. Execute the following script to update the CA Spectrum out of the box dashboards and indices:
    ./setupSpectrum.sh

Note: To update the CA Spectrum out of the box dashboards when the existing tenants are already provisioned, execute the following script:
    ./update_ootb_reports_for_tenants.sh

Configure the axagateway (AXA Gateway) probe

Configure the axagateway probe to enable the CA Spectrum and CA App Experience Analytics integration. This configuration allows you to store CA Spectrum alarms and inventory in CA App Experience Analytics.

The probe is configurable only through the Admin Console and it performs the following tasks:

  • Creates different queues for alarms and inventories on the hub.
  • Subscribes to these queues
  • Posts alarms and inventories to Jarvis. Organizations or tenants register their analytical applications with Jarvis for using it as the analytics engine.
  • Calculates the availability of specific CA Spectrum Global Collections and posts to Jarvis
  • Posts total device up/down metrics to Jarvis.

For axagateway configuration instructions, see Integrate CA Spectrum and CA App Experience Analytics.

Configure the spectrumgtw (Spectrum Gateway) probe

Configure the ‘spectrumgtw’ probe to enable bidirectional integration between CA UIM and CA Spectrum

The spectrumgtw (Spectrum Gateway) probe synchronizes inventory from both inside and outside the connected CA Spectrum Global Collection (GC). The axagateway (CA App Experience Analytics Gateway) probe subscribes to these hub subjects to synchronize the inventory to CA App Experience Analytics.

For prerequisites and instructions to deploy and configure the spectrumgtw probe, see Integrate CA Spectrum and CA App Experience Analytics.

CA Spectrum Dashboards in CA App Experience Analytics

CA App Experience Analytics supports the following CA Spectrum blueprints:

  • Spectrum Overview
  • Spectrum: Device Availability by Group
  • Spectrum: Branch Availability by Region (For Banking Domain)
  • All Device Down Alarms

For more information, see Integrate CA Spectrum and CA App Experience Analytics.

Note: If a Global Collection name is modified in CA Spectrum, the respective inventory update reflects in CA App Experience Analytics only after the next full synchronization.
