Installing and Integrating Digital Experience Collector

Last update December 8, 2017

For CA App Experience Analytics, the Digital Experience Collector is installed automatically as part of the installation.

For CA Application Performance Management (CA APM), you install the Digital Experience Collector and enable the integration with CA APM  and CA App Experience Analytics. You can enable the integrations either during or after the Digital Experience Collector installation.

Note: This release supports offline and non-root installation of Digital Experience Collector and Nginx.

This article contains the following information:

Installation and Integration Scripts

The Experience Collector archive contains the following scripts to automate the installation and integration process:

dxc-install.sh
Dxc-install.sh automates the following operations using one script:

  • Installs the Digital Experience Collector components, updates the configuration file, and starts the services
  • Provides an option to install Nginx by calling the nginx-install.sh script
  • Provides an option to integrate Digital Experience Collector and CA APM by calling the dxc-apm-integration.sh
  • Provides an option to integrate APM with CA App Experience Analytics by calling the apm-axa-integration.sh script

dxc-remove.sh

Dxc-remove.sh removes the Digital Experience Collector installation.

nginx-install.sh
Nginx is used for SSL termination, load balancing, and aids in serving files over HTTPS. The nginx-install.sh script automates the Nginx installation process. Run this script independently to install Nginx if you did not install Nginx during the Digital Experience Collector installation process. See Install and Configure Nginx When Digital Experience Collector is Already Installed.

dxc-apm-integration.sh
This script automates the process of integrating Digital Experience Collector and CA APM. This script is called when running the dxc-install.sh script for the integration. You can run dxc-apm-integration.sh independently if you did not integrate during the Digital Experience Collector installation process. See Configure Digital Experience Collector and APM When Digital Experience Collector and APM are Already Installed.

apm-axa-integration.sh
The Digital Experience Collector can send data to both CA APM and CA App Experience Analytics, on-premise and SaaS systems. The apm-axa-integration.sh script automates the integration process of CA APM and CA App Experience Analytics. This script is called from the dxc-install.sh script to integrate CA products when installing the Digital Experience Collector. You can run apm-axa-integration.sh script independently if you did not integrate during the Digital Experience Collector installation process. See Integrate CA APM and CA App Experience Analytics When Digital Experience Collector Is Already Installed.

runningProc.sh
This script performs a health check of running processes. The health check is run automatically during the Digital Experience Collector installation process. You can run the script independently after the Digital Experience Collector is installed. See Perform Health Check.

Single-Node Installation

Use a single-node installation for low-scale or test environments.

Installing the Digital Experience Collector for CA APM involves the following process:

  1. Download the CA APM software package from the CA APM software download area on CA Support.
  2. From the list of components, download and extract CA Experience Collector.

  3. Configure the Digital Experience Collector to support the collection of browser metrics.

  4. Install Nginx (optional).

  5. Integrate Digital Experience Collector and CA APM (optional).
  6. Integrate APM and CA App Experience Analytics (optional).

See Install the Digital Experience Collector on a Single System for complete steps.

Note: This version of the Experience Collector does not support multi-node installation.
