This release information describes changes to features and enhancements that were made in each incremental release level of Version 18.0, including changes to configuration tables and modified nonprogram product components. In addition, the following topics are covered: the Incremental Release program, CA Chorus Software Manager for installation, product accessibility features, and published solutions.
Version 18.0 is referred to as an incremental release because it is being delivered using the incremental release delivery method. This delivery method provides you with PTF updates to the base code line as soon as enhancements are approved and published. The incremental release delivery method uses the following terminology:
Feature PTF-- The mechanism that is used to publish features of an incremental release. Features are published when the validation partners deem them as having met a minimum viable product (MVP) criteria. The decision to publish a feature is collaborative and occurs during an end-of-sprint review meeting when the feature is demonstrated. The release validation partners (customers that elected to join the validation partnership program), express their opinion as to whether a feature meets their MVP criteria. Those features that are given the MVP rating are published, that is made generally available (GA) for the incremental release.
Service PTF – The mechanism that is historically used to publish defect corrections.
Incremental Delivery PTF-- The roll-up of already-published feature and service PTFs. After all features that were designated as MVP during the end-of-sprint review meeting have been published as feature PTFs, an Incremental delivery PTF is created and published to provide a convenient way to install all published feature PTFs for the incremental release. The incremental delivery PTF also ensures all previously published feature and maintenance PTFs are also installed. After this roll-up PTF is installed, the product release identifier (vv.r.xx) indicates the new release level. Beginning with Version 18.0.04, the numbering scheme format is Version 18.0.xx, with xx indicating the number of each sequential release level.
This video explains CA Technologies new Incremental Release Program and how we use the Agile development methodology to expedite the delivery of our product enhancements:
This program is a customer-interactive delivery model where we develop new product features and release them using the Agile development methodology. The CA Technologies development teams work closely with customers to create product features for rapid implementation. We work with customers to release new features incrementally, as we complete them, rather than waiting for a list of features to complete. After all of the features for an incremental release are completed, the release transitions to the standard support policy.
To participate in the Incremental Release program, review the Incremental Release Program - Support Policy and Terms. To discuss the customer requirements for participation, contact the product manager for your product. Participating in the Agile development process is not mandatory.
In an incremental release, new product features, in addition to maintenance, are delivered in the format of an SMP/E PTF. These PTFs can be downloaded from CA Support Online and managed through SMP/E or installed via CA CSM.
The following SOURCEID will be assigned to PTFs to help you manage the installation of Agile Features (New Features):
SPE-AFnn-- Identifies that the PTF contains a Product Feature developed under the Agile methodology, where nn represents the feature number for the incremental release.
The following FIX Category has been created to identify new product features:
CA.Function.AgileFeature-- Identifies PTFs that deliver Agile features for an incremental release.
The list of PTFs for downloading can be found within CA Support Online by accessing the product maintenance grid http://www.ca.com/us/support/ca-support-online/product-content/status/detailed-service-pack-info/ca-endevor-software-change-manager-maintenance-grid.aspx?intcmp=searchresultclick&resultnum=10. All PTFs can be accessed by clicking the ‘PTFs since INC00’ hyperlink. To see new features only, open the link entitled ‘New Features’.
The prerequisite for each incremental release PTF is the application of the prior incremental release PTF (or the base release (Incremental Release 0) and any published maintenance. If you are using CA Chorus Software Manager (CA CSM) to install the PTF, the software will automatically install the prerequisites.
