CA SMP/E Internet Service Retrieval

Bauman, James A | Feb 28, 2018

As part of our ongoing Mainframe strategy, CA Technologies now offers a new maintenance delivery service: CA SMP/E Internet Service Retrieval. This new delivery method uses the IBM SMP/E RECEIVE ORDER command to acquire CA Mainframe product maintenance over the internet by securely submitting an order for PTFs and HOLDDATA to a remote CA Technologies server.

This service can reduce hours of maintenance time to just minutes, making your system programmers more productive and allowing them to focus on higher value tasks.  “This capability has drastically reduced the time and effort needed to find and download updates. Best of all, it is easy to use!” said Rob Capel, Senior Operating System Programmer, Sentara Healthcare.

CA SMP/E Internet Service Retrieval:

  • Eliminates time-consuming fix searches and the need to select maintenance manually through CA Support Portal
  • Automates delivery of CA maintenance directly to your mainframe
  • Fulfills orders based on the status of your SMP/E environments
  • Enables scheduling of maintenance downloads
  • Facilitates an easier installation of CA Recommended and Preventive service

With the CA SMP/E Internet Service Retrieval, you can acquire maintenance on demand or can schedule an SMP/E job to run regularly. The CA Order server supports the IBM-documented order types, which include: ALL, APARS, CRITICAL, HOLDDATA, PTFS, and RECOMMENDED.

If you are an existing CA Chorus™ Software Manager customer, you can also use this new service to download maintenance and dramatically reduce the time needed to download PTFs.

To get started, see CA SMP/E Configure Internet Service Retrieval.

CA Recommended Service for z/OS

Bauman, James A | Dec 28, 2016

CA Recommended Service for z/OS (CA RS) is an important part of a good Preventive Maintenance philosophy for CA Technologies Mainframe Stack for z/OS products. CA RS is intended to reduce risk when applying Preventive Maintenance and reduce the chance of encountering a PTF-in-error (PE) both of which result in a more stable system. Therefore, CA recommends that customers install all available CA RS PTFs as Preventive Maintenance on regular intervals (for example, monthly, quarterly, or annually).

For information about the latest CA RS updates and CA RS Reports and related tools, see CA Recommended Service for z/OS on the CA Mainframe Community.

CA Common Services Agile Development: Call for Participants

Brian Everett | Oct 14, 2014

CA’s Incremental Release Program is a customer-interactive delivery model where new product features are developed and released using the Agile development methodology. CA’s development teams work closely with customers to create product features for rapid implementation. Rather than waiting for a list of features to be completed before making a new product release available, we are working with customers to release new features incrementally, as they are completed.

The Incremental Release program enables product development teams to more quickly match customer and market requirements than those products released under the previous waterfall release methodology.  CA will support incremental releases in accordance with CA’s Incremental Release Program – Support Policy and Terms.  At the conclusion of the Incremental Release program, all of the new features and maintenance introduced during the program will be rolled into a ‘complete’ release which is then supported under CA’s standard support policy

To participate in the Incremental Release program, please review CA’s Incremental Release Program – Support Policy and Terms and contact Jennifer Hall, Product Manager (Jennifer.Hall@ca.com, 1-412-494-1122) to discuss the customer requirements recommended for participation.  While participation in the Agile development process is not mandatory, CA recommends that customers implementing a release during the Incremental Process participate to ensure that they are aware of all release communications.
